Seattle Zoning Changes and Tree Canopy: How Will They Affect You?

In the Pacific Northwest, trees are a way of life, and protecting urban tree canopy while building housing for the future can be a challenge.  Northwesterners can learn more on the topic at “Seattle Zoning Changes: How Will They Affect You?” which is a series of free educational sessions designed to inform the public on the impact of new zoning proposals in Seattle, including trees.

Although these events are geared specifically towards Seattle and the proposed upzoning across the city, the interactive sessions will address universal issues on the importance of tree canopy in cities overall.

Sponsored by the Trees and People Coalition, the sessions will address proposed zoning changes in Seattle neighborhoods and how they will affect tree canopy.

A Zoom session addressing the topic for the city overall is scheduled for this Saturday, November 23 from 1-2 pm.  In addition, there are several neighborhood specific sessions as follows:

  • Nov. 30, 2:30-3:30 pm, Columbia City Library (4721 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98118)

  • Dec. 1, 3:30-4:30 pm, Beacon Hill Library (2821 Beacon Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98144)

  • Dec. 11, 5:30-6:30 pm, Douglass-Truth Library (2300 E. Yesler Way, Seattle, WA 98122)
