Plants, Garden Art and More at Everett Sorticulture

Whether you live in a home or an apartment, own or rent, there was something for almost everyone at the recent Everett Sorticulture.

Billed as a “three-day celebration of the best parts of Pacific Northwest outdoor living”, Everett Sorticulture lived up to its description in every sense and then some.  Plants, both for indoor and outdoor living, were in abundance.  Art of all types, from garden, glass and metal art, abounded.  While the focus was on outdoor living, there were plenty of vendors with unique solutions for bringing the outdoors inside too, as well as handcrafted jewelry of all types.

Among some of the top takeaways:

  • Edible exotic mushrooms, fiddleheads and mushroom jerky, logs and grow your own mushroom kits from Black Forest Mushrooms of Everett

  • Window herb boxes designed around edible themes, from herbs for grilling beef to a cocktail herb planter, from Butch’s Baskets of Puyallup

  • Story poles and art, brilliantly hand painted with acrylics, for the home and garden from BOHO Art by Potter

  • Hand-crafted air plant holders and aerium planters from Light Razor Design

  • Patio, deck and backyard greenhouses from Solar Gem Greenhouses

  • Antique roses from the Antique Rose Farm of Snohomish

  • Primroses shade perennials and more from Vade, Wash. based A Plethora of Primula

  • Handcrafted glass and metal art from Beth Wright Designs

  • Carnivorous plants from Courting Frogs Nursery

  • 100 percent recycled glass windchime (including a charming one made from Coca-Cola bottles and another from a teacup) from Smashing Glass

This annual event is produced by the City of Everett.  This year, Everett Sorticulture took place over a multi-block radius in the historic downtown section of Everett.  Billed as “dog-friendly,” there were plenty of canine visitors (all remarkably friendly) attending with their human companions.  The emphasis was on local vendors - artists, nurseries, jewelry makers and more - and well worth the trip even if you live outside Snohomish County.
